Arizona Spurs Update | August 2026
Fast Stats
The wait is almost over. Tottenham begin the 2026/27 Premier League season away to Brentford on Saturday, August 22, with kickoff at 9:30 AM Arizona time. One week later, Spurs return home to face Newcastle United on August 29, also at 9:30 AM Arizona time.
The squad heads into the new campaign unbeaten through seven pre-season friendlies. Spurs recorded four wins and three draws, with one of those draws ending in a penalty-shootout victory over Sydney FC. Preparations included a 2-1 win over Chelsea in Sydney and a strong 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And the cup campaign starts almost immediately. With Spurs not competing in Europe this season, we enter the Carabao Cup in the second round and will host Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, August 26, at 11:45 AM Arizona time.
Spurs Headlines
A New Season, A New Chapter
Here we go again.
Roberto De Zerbi enters his first full season in charge after taking over late in the 2025/26 campaign, and this summer has given him his first opportunity to shape the squad and prepare the group from the beginning of pre-season.
There have been plenty of changes, but there have also been encouraging signs throughout the summer. Spurs finished pre-season unbeaten, younger players have made an impression, and new signings have had time to settle into the group.
Now the real work begins.
Brentford away gets the Premier League campaign started on August 22 before a quick turnaround brings Charlton in the Carabao Cup and Newcastle for our first league match back in N17.
The Transfer Window Is Still Moving
This has already been a busy summer.
Spurs have added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Martin Dubravka, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali to the first-team squad. De Zerbi spoke positively about those six additions in July while also making clear that the club’s work in the transfer market was not finished.
There is plenty of Premier League experience in that group, along with some familiar faces for De Zerbi. Tonali and Fernandes strengthen the midfield, while Robertson, Senesi and van Hecke add significant experience to the defensive group.
And with the window still open, the squad we see against Brentford may not necessarily be the finished version for 2026/27.
Saying Goodbye
New arrivals also mean farewells, and this summer has brought several.
The biggest recent departure is Cristian Romero, who completed a move to Atletico Madrid on August 15. Cuti leaves after 156 appearances in Lilywhite, having played a major role in our 2025 Europa League triumph and serving as captain during the 2025/26 campaign. Whatever came with the Cuti experience, there was never much doubt about his commitment when he stepped onto the pitch. We wish him well in the next chapter.
Another departure that deserves recognition is Djed Spence, who completed a permanent move to Inter Milan on August 15. Djed leaves Spurs after 85 appearances and two goals, but his time in North London was about much more than the numbers. After loan spells away from the club, he fought his way back into the squad, earned the trust of the supporters and played his part in our Europa League triumph in Bilbao. His pace, versatility and determination made him an easy player to get behind, and seeing him establish himself at Spurs made his journey all the more rewarding. We wish Djed nothing but the best as he begins his next chapter in Italy.
Manor Solomon has moved permanently to West Ham United, while young defender Ashley Phillips has joined Middlesbrough.
And in one of the latest moves, Guglielmo Vicario has joined Juventus on loan for the 2026/27 season, with the agreement including an option for the move to become permanent next summer. Vicario has made 117 appearances for Spurs since arriving in 2023.
There may still be more movement before the window closes, so we will keep an eye on the official announcements rather than the rumor mill.
New Deals and a Welcome Return
There has been important continuity as well.
Micky van de Ven signed a new long-term contract on August 10, committing his future to Spurs as he approaches 100 appearances for the club.
Pedro Porro committed his future to Tottenham in June 2026, signing a new long-term contract that reportedly runs until 2031, with an option for another year.
And there was another very welcome sight in our final pre-season match: James Maddison made his first start in almost a year as Spurs drew 2-2 with Hoffenheim at Hotspur Way. After such a long road back, simply seeing Madders back on the pitch was a positive way to finish the summer preparations.
Player Spotlight
SUPER BEN DAVIES
There may not be a better player to spotlight as we begin a season full of change than Ben Davies.
Ben signed a new Spurs contract in June and now enters an incredible 13th season with the club. At the time of his new deal, he had already made 363 appearances in Lilywhite and joined a select group of only 29 players in Tottenham history to pass 350 appearances.
A remarkable run of service in an era when long stays at one club have become increasingly rare. But what makes his story worth telling goes well beyond appearances and minutes on the pitch.
Last October, Ben reached one of the biggest milestones available in international football when he made his 100th appearance for Wales. Earlier this year, the Football Association of Wales honored that achievement with a special golden cap, presented to him by fellow Spurs and Wales legend Cliff Jones.
His influence away from the pitch has been just as notable. Ben was named Tottenham’s men’s PFA Community Champion for the 2023/24 season, an award recognizing players who make community work and good causes an important part of their role as professional footballers.
That recognition came after his involvement in a wide range of initiatives. He supported the Club becoming the first football club to sign the Mayor of London’s Women’s Night Safety Charter, joined a cancer rehabilitation session run through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, celebrated the 10th anniversary of Proud Lilywhites, and supported Spurs supporter Anthony Bryan during his successful London Marathon world-record attempt. He has also worked with the National Literacy Trust, joining schoolchildren at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to encourage young people to improve their literacy through football.
Ben has formed a particularly strong connection with cancer-support initiatives in North London. He visited the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre in Enfield, joining participants in one of the Foundation’s health and wellbeing sessions for people living with cancer. In 2025, he continued that support by helping promote the Nightingale Night Hike, the charity’s annual fundraising event.
And that work continues to grow. This August, Ben was appointed to the Football Association of Wales Council, where his experience as a current player and long-time Wales international will help inform the FAW’s work and the future of the game in Wales.
Through all the different managers, teammates and chapters at Tottenham, Ben has remained one of the constants. Dependable when called upon, a leader for club and country, and someone whose contribution extends well beyond matchday.
After spending time out injured last season, Ben returned during pre-season and provided a perfectly timed reminder that he can still contribute on the pitch as well. He scored against Hoffenheim in our final pre-season fixture on August 16 and completed another 90 minutes before declaring himself fit and ready for the season ahead.
Thirteen seasons. More than 100 caps for Wales. A PFA Community Champion. And still going.
Super Ben Davies.
Club Updates
Back Together Again
The start of a new season means new signings, new kits, new fixtures and another nine months of wondering exactly what Tottenham will put us through. But more importantly, we all get to come back together again!
We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces back at Fibber Magee’s, 1989 W. Elliot Road in Chandler, for the season opener and throughout the Premier League campaign. Whether you were with us every week last season or are joining Arizona Spurs for the first time, there is always a place for you on matchday.
And we know supporting Spurs from Arizona sometimes requires a little extra dedication. Some kickoffs give us a reasonable start to the morning, while others have us gathering before the sun comes up. Whatever the hour, this group continues to show up, and those early mornings together are part of what makes Arizona Spurs special.
Thankfully, we are starting 2026/27 with a friendly one by Spurs standards. Our Premier League season kicks off Saturday, August 22, as Spurs travel to Brentford for a 9:30 AM Arizona kickoff. Fibber Magee’s will have food available for the opening match, so come hungry, grab your spot, catch up with the AZ Spurs family and get ready for another season together.
It is good to be back.

Closing Note
A new season always brings a little bit of everything — optimism, questions, new players to learn, familiar shirts to see again and another blank page waiting to be filled.
We do not know exactly what 2026/27 will bring. That is part of being Spurs.
What we do know is that we get to experience it together.
Thank you to everyone who continues to make Arizona Spurs a place where supporters can come together, share the highs and lows, welcome new faces and feel connected to a club thousands of miles away.
Here’s to seeing everyone again, to another season of match mornings together, and hopefully to plenty worth celebrating along the way.
Come on you Spurs!
